Local Japanese @ Tokyo Tei Restaurant

So you are visiting Maui, and you do not want to eat at the hotel, or at the same place all those visitor pamphlets suggests. What do you do? Well, you came to the right place, because I'll tell you where the gret out of the way digs are. Hungry for some Japanese food? Okay if you are, then I have to suggest Tokyo Tei restaurant located in Wailuku, just minutes from the airport, about 40 minutes from Kaanapali, and 30 minutes from Kihei/Wailea.

What does Tokyo Tei have to offer? Well for you single dudes, it's close to those hostess bars. Ha ha. Well, the product is great, this dig has the best shrimp and veggie tempuras, fish dishes like fish misoyaki, fried fish, fish nitsuke, broiled salmon, teri salmon. And they have great lunch trays or they call it teishoku trays, ask for Teishoku A and this is what you'll get Teriyaki Pork, Shrimp & Sashimi. Teishouku B and you'll get Teriyaki Steak, Shrimp Tempura, & Sashimi. Well you get the picture check them out at http://www.tokyoteimaui.com/ or call them at 808-242-9360. They are located at 1063 Lower Main St. Wailuku.

They specialize in Shabu shabu which is, thinly sliced meats are cooked quickly in a broth made with kombu (kelp) and dipped in a sauce and eaten with rice. Shabu shabu oringinated from China in the 20th century.

If you were to make Shabu shabu at home, there's many hot pots on the market to choose from, or go online to find a Shabu shabu hot pot. Some people have the electric flat top cooker that rests on the table for service.

Using rib eye beef is good because of the flavors from the fats, rib eyes do work well in fact too well.
