FOOD SAFETY FOR THE SUMMER "CHICKEN"

Summertime is here and there's no doubt cooks at home will be busy in the kitchen or out on the patio, so this blog post is important.

Chicken is the subject and all you need to do is remember these key points.

- Unopened chicken (whole or parts), can last 2 days in the refrigerator, held below 40 degrees F.

- It can last up to 8-9 months unopened in the freezer at temperatures 30 and below F.

- Discard chicken that was sitting out at room temperature for two or more hours.

- Cook chicken so that the internal temperature gets up to 160-165 degrees F.

- If you've defrosted the chicken in cold water or microwave, you must cook it immediately.

- Chicken that has been defrosted in the refrigerator and or water, can be stored for an additional two days in the fridge.
