When visiting Maui, and you want to try something local, and local is anything we love, and what we love is Japanese influenced foods, we love it! One place be sure to go to, is Ramen Ya, a small restaurant in the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center. Okay here is how to pronounce it. ( Kah- Ah- Hoo- Mah-Noo) got it?
This is our big mall, and no it's not the Great Mall of America, it's smaller but big for Maui's standards, Macy's and Sears anchors each end of the mall. There's a good food court upstairs, but if you want excellent Japanese food, and ramen noodle soups, this is the place to go. It is on the ground floor of the mall next to Koho's Restaurant which is another good place.
But the Chicken Katsu is huge at this place as well, katsu fanatics will be in heaven at this dig. The chef's there are all Japanese experts in their style of cooking, and if you don't want meats, get a veggie ramen and you're good to go to do the rest of the shopping.

I moved away from Maui a year ago. At times I have CRAVINGS for food found only on the island. Ramen ya, Koho's Restaurant, and Dragon Dragon. Ramen Ya reminds me of my friends. We'd go to the mall and sit there for hours after we've eaten. I LOVE the chicken katsu with curry, seafood crispy noodle, and the mochiko chicken. I wish I knew how to make them. It'd help me be less homesick.
