Panera Bread opened up their first store in 1987. Where? Kirkwood, MO. In 2004 they introduced chicken raised without antibiotics on their Strawberry Poppyseed and Chicken Salad. 2005 Commit to remove all artificial trans fat from their menu. 2010 They are the first national restaurant to display calorie information on their menu boards. 2013 First national restaurant to introduce sprouted grains. March 2014 Makes ordering more convenient with mobile ordering and kiosks. June 2014 Announced plans to remove artificial colors, sweeteners, flavors and preservatives from the menu by 2016. December 2014 Share an update on their animal welfare progress. May 2015 Unveils their 'No No' List. And shares progress towards their 2016 goal- at that point 85% of the way there! Their Work Continues They're on a journey to serve food as it should be-the foods they want to feed their own families. And we can be sure they'll never stop.

This is a brief history of this company, that laid its foundation in Kirkwood, MO. in 1987. Living on Maui, the way I heard about Panera Bread was from nationally televised commercials. I am working with a business person that worked for this company for a couple of years, he stated that his new business venture will model their community help after Panera Bread.

Anyhow, I won't bore you with a lot of info on this company, I just had to research them to see who they were. I'll share with you more info on Panera Bread if you like myself have no idea who they are. With 1900 stores in the United States and Canada they are doing somethings right, as Foodies want more healthy alternatives and will seek it out. This is a good business model, something any green food service entrepreneur should be watching. It's great to be old school, just look at the way they are succeeding.
